IMSA Allies is a unique STEM youth leadership development program in which students broaden their STEM understanding by serving others. It prepares high school students to deliver inquiry-based, hands-on science, technology, engineering and mathematics activities to younger students. Through weekly meetings during the school year, Allies learn 21st century workforce readiness skills, including best practice collaboration, critical thinking, leadership and communication skills. Our Allies group then returns to campus during summer program weeks to support many of our programs.
Allies follows the “Kids Teaching Kids” model that was established over a decade ago at IMSA. As a teaching and learning laboratory, IMSA has incubated the Allies program to maturity and has expanded the program to include students outside of the Aurora campus, giving the same opportunities to students in Chicago at the Perspectives Mathematics and Science Academy.
